While a cold, snowy and rainy start to the 2018 boys golf season created some interesting challenges, the team has been finishing in the top half of its conference every meet.

One highlight from the season so far was the April 30 meet at Tuckaway Country Club in Franklin, where the team played two varsity nine-hole meets and finished third in one and fourth in the other, missing third place the second time by just one stroke.

“We have a record number of golfers on the golf team this year at 20,” said Coach Jon Adams. “The biggest challenge is always logistics and weather. We have three teams competing weekly and practicing all at the same time. Every time you think you have it figured out, the weather changes.”

The team is currently fourth in the Southeastern Conference, and Adams’ goal is for players to qualify for the state tournament.

Standout players include senior Nathan Stine, team captain, who recently committed to play golf for Asbury University in Kentucky.

“He is in the hunt for conference player of the year. With a strong second half of the season he can do it,” Adams said.

As Stine wraps his year as an IT Hawk, Adams had some parting words for his veteran player:

“I’d like to wish him the best of luck in the future,” Adams said. “With his work ethic and passion for the game of golf, the sky’s the limit. If he makes it to the PGA, it would be my honor to be on his bag.”
