Testing Day

Meeting held. Instructions done.

Sent our structured way.

We check them in and fill out forms.

Yes . . . it’s testing day.

I watch the shuffle, the shaking knee,

The chew and necklace spin,

Hair that’s twirled and silent taps,

The squirm from seats they’re in.

While none will cheer, they persevere

Like troopers in a storm,

Cal-cu-la-tor screens were bright

When lights went out that morn.

Some rooms were moved out of dark

To windows with a view

And though they tried, Admin decides

“This test is void for you.”

Meeting held. Instructions done.

Sent our structured way.

To check them in and fill out forms,

The NEXT testing day

They’re all on time and ready to go

They don’t want to wait.

“Let’s get this done”; they give their best

While I contemplate.

The effort seen as they test on

Their hope for futures bright

Will likely be for those I see.

Yes, they are fit to fight.

Regardless of the road ahead

With struggles unforeseen,

I think they’ll rise above this tide

For of this crop – they’re cream

Meetings held. Instructions done.

They’ll go their random ways.

To check out life, still fill out forms.

No structured testing days.
