Goosebumps, shivers, and a soothing melodic atmosphere.

Before Bon Iver’s fourth album came to light on Aug. 9, 2019. Little was known of what road he would take with the sound of this album. Yet, just one listen through and you realize the underlying sound he decided to present.

Combining his centerpiece voice, his signature folk, R&B, and electronic instrumentals, Bon Iver created an album that will not be forgotten.

Starting with just the second song, “iMi,” you soon appreciate his attention to detail with every sound, note, and instrument. With random noises, soothing voices, and the playing of strings in between choruses, “iMi” proves to be one of the greatest songs to introduce an album.

Shortly after, “Hey, Ma”, “U (Man Like)”, and “Naeem” give a different atmosphere to the album. Simplified sounds and strong vocals add a refreshing tone to the middle section of songs.

The next song to really present itself is “Faith,” with its strong lyrics, an instrumental build up, and a short-lived choir. The outcome is an emotional ambience that embraces you as the song advances.

The last four songs wrap up the album with a good combination of calming melodies and Bon Iver’s signature voice. Instead of ending the album with power, he seems to go to the opposite end of where he began.

With low and high points in every song, strong lyrics, spontaneous instrumentals, and a mixture of different genres, Bon Iver created an album that not only makes you ll with joy, but also gives you a shiver of emotion. Each song, every lyric, and every single instrument seems to have its own disposition that contributes to a beautifully crafted masterpiece. That is why I believe this

album easily deserves a 4 1⁄2 stars.
