Mystery Skulls brings us Back To Life

Written by Naomi Perez, Staff Writer

Ever hear of a one-man show? If you haven’t, you’re in luck to hear about Mystery Skulls and their ever growing fandom and popularity climbing the charts!

Luis Alberto Dubuc Jr. is known as an American musician, DJ, singer/songwriter and record producer from Dallas. He, himself, is Mystery Skulls. He defines his music to be electronic dance oriented and vintage disco influenced, according to www. allmusic.com.

Dubuc created Mystery Skulls back in 2014, its name inspired an episode of Nickelodeon’s early TV series show “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”. After he left his previous groups The Secret Handshake and Of Legends.

In his music career, he has released four major albums, including his most recent Back To Life album. It was released in April, and the response was phenomenal. The album’s tracklist consists of retro techno and generates non-stop urges to get up and dance your heart out.

All songs have their own vibe and groove such as one of the beginning songs “Without You.” The song leaves you with some feel-good vibes and empowerment in oneself. More down the tracklist lies “Get In “The Car,” which instantly greets you with a bubbly summer aura and fast pulsating groovy beats that you’ll love to listen to during a late-night drive with the windows rolled down.

Finally, “Stronger” gives off a very intense retro synth-wave sound mixed with just great and iconic vocals done by Luis himself. The song makes you feel like you can run the world! Many have come to love the Back To Life album, after first feeling skepticism, only to finish the album and to continue listening to it repeatedly.

Its only flaw is with Louis being the only member, people notice the lack of vocals. Yet his collaborations with his most featured acts Snowblood, Phangs, Brandy Norwood, and even Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Nile Rodgers, a three-time Grammy Award winner, make up for it tremendously.

Overall, this album will not disappoint for those who seek a little more grooves to dance the night away. I rate it a solid 4.5 stars out of 5!
