Losers club comes back to Derry

IT: Chapter Two, directed by Andres Muschi- etti is a thrilling, horrific lm based on the book written by Stephen King. The movie is a remake of the original IT that was released in 1990, and like that original is built on the fear of an evil unworldly clown that feeds on the esh of children.

The movie starts with the cast as children, introducing Bill Denbrough. Bill is a young middle school student who loses his brother to the murderous clown.

Soon enough the “losers club” forms. As the band of kids live out their adolescence, they soon discover that they are all seeing the same clown, Pennywise, who finds out their fears. Pennywise, better known as IT, uses this tactic so he can season their esh with fear before he eats them.

Most of the actors do very well at portraying their characters. It’s very hard to live up to the original movie, but in the end cast members do a fairly good job. Some stand out more than others. Bill Hader makes a fantastic Richie Tozier, especially because of his background as a comedian

The actors who could’ve played their characters better are Jay Ryan and Jessica Chastain. Don’t get me wrong, I love Chastain as an actress, but I don’t feel like she gives Beverly Marsh enough justice. Jessica makes Beverly seem almost feeble and frail. The character of Bev is much stronger than Jessica portrays. She is put through so much and deserves much better than to be treated as if she is soft or weak.

As for Jay Ryan, he is a good actor, but I don’t believe that he is the best t for Ben. They don’t have any of the same features. If you’re going to portray an older version of a character, there should at least be a resemblance.

The CGI is incredible, especially when the losers meet up at a Chinese restaurant and the fortune cookies became little creatures. The editor also used a de-aging device to make some of the actors look younger since they all were growing up during the filming. Absolutely incredible. My least favorite parts were the loud music, but that’s what adds to the jump scares, isn’t it?

The losers stick up for each other as the murderous clown consumes their lives. The seven become increasingly close in their childhood and even in their adulthood, when they get back together. Even if they all had different fears, they are always there for each other. This movie may be about a clown who eats the esh of fearful people, but it also tells a courageous tale about the friendships of these kids.

IT: Chapter Two targets classic horror movie lovers, the ones who have seen the original IT. You don’t need to have seen the original to enjoy the remake. The movie is truly amazing, though the lovers of the original movie may not enjoy it as much as the first. I’d give this movie a 4.5/5. I wasn’t let down, IT was a perfect combination of scary and heartwarming.
