National Championship Game: The Louisiana State University (LSU) Tigers defeated the Clemson Tigers in a battle that ended with a 42-25 final score. Joe Burrow, LSU’s star quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, capped off a very successful season as he threw for 5 touchdowns and rushed for another for a total of 463 yards. Both of these feats were the most ever in a College Football Playoff title game. Other notable players include LSU running back and Baton Rouge, LA native Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who rushed for 110 yards.
Orange Bowl: In a well fought match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL that ended with a 36-28 Florida (UF) win over the University of Virginia, Florida held off Virginia’s promising fourth quarter rally that led to two touchdowns. The game started off with a bang, when Lamical Perine (UF) scored on a 61-yard run in the first minute of the game. Perine ran for a career high of 138 yards over 13 carries, which gave UF two of their four touchdowns and ultimately resulted in their third bowl game win in a row.
Outback Bowl: Coming in as the underdog, No. 18 seed Minnesota came out victorious over then No. 12 seed Auburn. The game resulted in a score of 31-24. While the two teams were neck and neck going into the fourth quarter, Minnesota managed to score on a pass to senior wide receiver Tyler Johnson in the fourth quarter, which allowed for Minnesota to secure their second consecutive bowl game victory. Johnson also broke the school record for receiving yards early in the game, which was previously held by NFL Pro Bowler Eric Decker and was unbroken for ten years.
Rose Bowl: Costly errors by the No. 8 seed University of Wisconsin throughout the entirety of the game gave No. 6 seed Oregon a 28-27 win. After a dropped punt by Wisconsin punter Anthony Lotti was recovered by Oregon safety Brady Breezefor a touch- down, Oregon converted two more turnovers into touchdowns — including an interception by Breeze — for a total of 21 points, adding to senior quarterback Justin Herbert’s for a total of 28. Despite Wisconsin star running back Jonathan Taylor’s strong efforts, Oregon continued their bowl game streak from last year, when they won the Redbox Bowl against Michigan State. Herbert was named the 2020 Rose Bowl MVP.
