#10: Oct. 12, 2019 – Eliud Kipchoge breaks two hour marathon barrier.
Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge turned what was once thought to be an untouchable barrier into a reality on a misty Saturday morning in Vienna. On a controlled course, alongside 41 professional pacesetters, Kipchoge ran 26.2 miles in an almost mythical time of 1:59:40.
#9: March 16, 2018 – University of Maryland, Baltimore County, becomes first 16-seed to win in NCAA tournament.
UMBC pulled off one of the most improbable upsets in college basketball his- tory after beating the No. 1 overall seed Virginia in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The most shocking part is that they didn’t need some wild buzzer beater to take them down. The Retrievers simply outplayed them and wound up winning by 20.
#8: April 13, 2016 – Kobe scores 60 in his last game.
When Kobe took the court for the last time, everyone at the Staples Center knew they were in for a special night. He ended his legendary career with a vintage 60 point performance and many clutch shots that led a comeback to beat the Utah Jazz. Bryant, who is no longer with us, will be forever immortalized in basketball history thanks to this game and his other amazing accomplishments and attributes.
#7: June 18, 2013 – Ray Allen’s desperate three ties up game six of the NBA Finals.
Ray Allen hit more than 3,000 three-pointers in his career, but none were more important than this one. With about 6 seconds left in the game, Allen’s shot saved the Heat from elimination and forced overtime in which they won. In Game 7, Miami would win the Finals, a title that would have never existed without Allen’s monumental shot.
#6: Feb 1, 2015 – Malcolm Butler Super Bowl winning interception at the goal line. On second and goal from the one yard line down 28-24 with seconds to go, Pete Carroll’s decision to throw was a costly one. As soon as the ball left Seahawk quarter- back Russell Wilson’s hand, Patriots Malcolm Butler jumped the route and stole the victory from Seattle, in possibly one of the greatest defensive plays ever.
#5: Nov 30, 2013 – Auburn wins Iron Bowl with “kick six.”
After a thrilling back and forth game, Alabama and Auburn were 28-28 with just seconds remaining. With the ball just past mid eld, the Crimson Tide decided to try and kick a field goal to win the game. The kick was short, and Auburn’s Chris Davis, who was under the crossbar anticipating a short kick, returned the ball 109 yards for a game-winning touchdown, sending the fans into hysterics.
#4: Feb 5, 2017 – Patriots mount epic comeback to win Super Bowl.
Trailing the Falcons 28-3 halfway through the third quarter, it looked as if the Patriots dynasty would come to an end. In- stead, the Patriots found a way to score 25 unanswered points to send the game into overtime and win it before Atlanta even got to touch the ball, adding to the Patriots legacy.
#3: April 4, 2016 – Villanova wins college basketball championship at buzzer.
In one of the most exciting basketball games to watch in recent memory, UNC guard Marcus Paige hit a crazy double clutch three pointer with only a few seconds left to tie the game at 74. But rather than settling for overtime, Villanova ju- nior Kris Jenkins hit a three as the buzzer sounded to to win the title for the Wildcats.
#2: May 13, 2012 – Sergio Aguero late goal saves Premier League Title.
On the final match day of the Premier League, all Manchester City needed to do was defeat a lowly QPR team to win the league. At the start of stoppage time, Manchester City was down 2-1. However, thanks to late goals by Edin Dzeko and the equalizer from Sergio Aguero, they won the title in the most dramatic fashion ever.
#1: June 19, 2016 – Cavs win NBA Finals after being down 3-1 in the series.
Down three games to one in the NBA Finals to a team that went 73-9 in the regular season, things weren’t trending in the right direction for the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron James then proceeded to do the impossible and he led his team back to win three straight games against the Warriors “super- team”, and claim the Larry O’Brian trophy. With a potential game saving chase down block with a few minutes left in Game 7, LeBron fulfilled his promise to the city of Cleveland by winning the championship.
