Harry Styles’ second solo album, Fine Line, depicts all emotions through soulful pop and rock, creating the theme to not only his album but ending song titled “Fine Line.”
Released on Dec. 13, 2019, the album climbed the Billboard music charts, breaking previous records and becoming the first pop album to reign No.1 for two weeks straight. It was the last No.1 album of the 2019 Billboard charts and the first No.1 album heading into the decade.
The 12-song soundtrack is fueled by a variety of genres including anything from soft-rock to R&B pop. Every song draws a different emotion within which creates a creative form of originality.
Starting off the album is “Golden,” “Watermelon Sugar,” “Sun ower Vol.6,” and “Adore You.” All are detailed with drum filled love ballads that express the happy romantic stage, placing them all on the Top 100 charts.
Next song, “Lights Up,”was the first song released months before the album as a teaser. It soulfully expresses heartbreak in a well-detailed masterpiece, building up the excitement for this new album. Other songs such as “Cherry,” “Falling,” and “To Be So Lonely” also enlighten negative situations relative to heartbreak by the use of soothing melodies and Styles’ calming voice.
The remaining songs express good-feel life lessons influenced by past experiences and are heavily mixed with unique genres such as folk, rock, and even including a bit of gospel choir.
Lastly, the song “Fine Line” takes all emotions relative to each song to create a strong message with a beautiful and powerful instrumental over 6 minutes and 17 seconds.
Overall, this captivating, emotional album definitely deserves the recognition it has been receiving. Through the use of strong poetic lyrics in each song to the evident devotion that is felt, this album is nothing less than a masterpiece.
For weeks straight, Fine Line has been on repeat and has yet to become old. I definitely recommend giving it a listen. I rate this album a solid five out of five stars.
