With just a few games left in the girls’ regular basketball season, Indian Trail’s varsity team is struggling to pull off a winning season.
Coach Sara Ames said her players are learning a lot about how to handle adversity this year.
“I always want basketball to be a fun and positive experience,” Ames said. “This season has been very challenging. The athletes are learning how to handle adversity and channel frustration positively.”
Ames said the team has struggled to be consistent and play four quarters of intense basketball. There is a distinctive gap between potential and players’ performance. As a result, the team’s overall record is 3-12 (at press time), out of a total of 22 regular season games to be played and the post-season yet to start on March 4.
The team has tried to focus on positive contributions it has made to the Kenosha community during the season.
“We are very proud of the community involvement and support we have received this season,” she said.
The team sponsored a Military Night. It also hosted a Community Night and raised money and collected donations for the Women’s and Children’s Horizons organization. Players will be celebrating a Cancer Awareness Night on Feb. 27, with all proceeds going to the Circle of Hope organization.
“We have also volunteered with the Special Olympics organization and as- sisted with their regional bowling tournament,” she said. “ I am very proud of our wonderful group of student athletes.”
