With Homecoming quickly approaching, the halls of ITA are beginning to buzz with enthusiasm for the upcoming activities like the pep assembly, football game, and of course, the dance itself. With all these activities comes months of preparation. From choosing the homecoming theme to picking out the right attire, here’s a glance at the different ways Indian Trail prepares for the big event.
Our student council begins planning for homecoming months in advance. Senior student council member Mia Franke says, “We started planning over the summer around July, and we went on a retreat to Lake Delvin where we all planned all the homecoming stuff and began to prep… We begin meeting again the second week of August to pick the theme with the other council members and then plan from there.”
After all the official preparation is complete and the theme is communicated to the student body, the focus shifts to planning the pep assembly. English teacher Ms. Allen leads the pep assembly this year, noting that “the pep assembly is a lot of work. It’s a lot having to teach new roles and having students adjust to those roles to plan for this event.”
Allen believes that with more involvement from students, everyone will be able to have an enjoyable experience. “I think students should have more involvement in spirit days. Students would be more interactive if they had pre-picked groups from each grade level for the games.”
At last, the night of homecoming has arrived and the difference between guys and girls getting ready is astonishing. While junior Bennet Scuglik only takes an hour to get ready, senior Kiara Carter begins prepping the week before to ensure that she is fully glammed and ready to dance the night away. With all of the process that comes with preparing for homecoming, it promises to be an astonishing night.
